Obtaining

Chrome tanning dry agent (basic chromium sulfate) is obtained by dissolving chrome in sulfuric acid and by postreduction to achieve hexavalent chromium.

Application

Chrome tanning agent is used in leather and fur industry for chrome tanned leather and fur.

Safety requirements

Chrome tanning dry agent is fire-and explosion-proof. It is a substance of the 4th level of danger for the human body.

Packing

Chrome tanning dry agent is packed in special soft disposable containers, polyethylene liners or plastic bags that are attached to not less than four-layer laminated paper bags or bags weighing up to 50 kg.

Guaranteed shelf life

6 months from date of manufacture.

The cooled extract of chrome tanning dry agent is suitable for tanning.

Basic properties and hazards
Basic properties Powder or granules of green colour, soluble in water. Nonvolatile. Water and acids can decompose to form toxic and flammable gases. Corrosive. Pollutes water resources.
Explosion and fire Hardly flammable. Upon contact with the flame, forms toxic gases (cyan, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, fluorine compounds, etc.)
The risk to humans May lead to death (at intake)!
The chemical is harmful if inhaled and swallowed (mouth, nose and throat burning, metallic taste, nausea, vomiting, general weakness; in severe cases of poisoning — gasp, fainting, seizures), if in contact with skin (redness, dryness, itching) and if in contact with the eyes (pain and tears). Possible chemical burns.
In case of long-term effect on the human body in concentration exceeding the limits the agent can have a general toxic effect causing the respiratory system, gastrointestinal tract and skin diseases. In case of damaged skin there is a possibility of dermatitis, lesion of the eyes might cause conjunctivitis. There is no evidence of sensibilization.
Toxic properties are due to the presence of soluble trivalent chromium and similar in action hromammoniya sulfate (alum hromammiachnyh by Cr3+).
Individual protection means For chemical investigation and operations manager — RC-3 (for 20 minutes). For emergency responders — insulating protective clothing FIR 5 in a kit with an insulating mask IP-4M.
